Written by Australian actor Tony Briggs, The Sapphires continues to be one of the country’s greatest stories ever told. Originally a play which began making the rounds in Melbourne and Sydney in 2004 and 2005 - before being revived in 2010 - The Sapphires became a national sensation with the release of its film adaptation in 2012.

Set in 1968, the story follows four Aboriginal Australian women that form a touring music group named The Sapphires, who, along the way, deal with both personal problems as well as issues regarding their race at a crucial point in time regarding Aboriginal rights. The award-winning story has stood the test of time for more over a decade, and remains to be a fantastic, heartfelt insight into Australia’s colourful history.

This 2019, The Sapphires makes its return under none other than Tony Briggs himself, with an exclusive two-day run at Home of the Arts in Surfers Paradise. Updated for a modern audience but keeping all the important themes of the original production, this sensational story-driven musical production is The Sapphires at its best yet, with a brand new country music score delivered in world-class fashion by talented performers Ngaire Pigram, Matilda Brown, Mindy Kwanten and Lorinda Merrypor.
